Revelstoke Secondary School

Revelstoke, BC

Architects: DIALOG   (Andrew Larigakis was lead designer with DIALOG for the winning competition entry and schematic design)

Cost for Elementary, Secondary Schools and Site works: $47 M

The new Secondary and Elementary schools were born out of a design competition which was won by a team including DIALOG and Graham Construction.

The schools were designed as both educational and important new community facilities for the town of Revelstoke. Including a 350 seat theatre and forming a new public square, the secondary school combines town planning and community aspirations with exemplary educational facilities. Multi-use communal space, break-out areas and informal learning spaces are combined with efficient space planning that provides abundant natural daylight to all classrooms, labs and teaching spaces.

Sustainability was an important focus and the schools are undergoing certification for LEED Gold status. Key to the energy conservation strategies was the design and construction of a high performance building enclosure that combined high levels of air tightness and insulation with minimal thermal bridging. Exterior sunshades reduce glare and solar heat gain while still allowing for abundant daylighting.
