Berwick Child Development CENTRE, UBC
The Berwick Memorial Building was built in 1976 and was a model facility at the time providing child care for children with developmental disabilities. The building consists of a series of distinct pods served by a corridor on one side with the whole wrapping around an exterior courtyard. It has had very few upgrades since it opened and is in need of renovation.
The program within the building has changed over time and will be modified again with these renovations. Existing child care space is being modified to provide full daycare for children aged 3 to 5 years. New kitchens are being provided throughout the building. Observation spaces are being converted to nap rooms, new finishes are being provided as well as upgrades to services.
Construction work is being phased over the summer of 2020 and 2021 to allow for continuous operation of the facility.
