This this state-of-the-art maker lab for the Department of Materials Engineering was completed as part of renovations in the Frank Forward Building at the University of British Columbia. The adaptable and heavily serviced space accommodates sophisticated machinery to melt, cast, machine, cut and fabricate metals. The department required a clean, bright, safe and robust facility for research and teaching.
Work involved the removal of existing furnaces for melting metals while retaining the original fume hoods for partial re-use. Also part of the project was the renovation of office space to create more private offices for faculty and graduate students.
