Playhouse – Pacific National Exhibition, Vancouver, BC
This playful architectural design was built for the 2013 Canfor Playhouse Challenge at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition) in Vancouver.
The image of the castle emerged as we played with an abstract design incorporating various types of spaces and experiences within the highly constrained 8′ x 8′ site. While the design is more literal than something we would normally do, we decided to run with castle idea as a stimulus for design and a spur for the kid’s imaginations.
At the conclusion of the PNE, the playhouses were auctioned off with the proceeds going to the BC Children’s Hospital.
Partnering with Larigakis Architecture on the project with generous donations of time and materials were: BIRD Construction, Dunkley Lumber, Wesbridge Steelworks and Chameleon Painting. Canfor organized the fun and fundraising event. Julia Meyer-Mcleod provided help with rendering and her design input.
